Most business owners are sitting on a mountain of avatar data without realizing it. Your long-form testimonials already tell you who your best buyers are, what they care about, and what finally pushes them to buy—if you know how to ask the right questions. AI can make you a wizard at this.

This Part 2 article walks you through, step by step, how to use the “Master Prompt: Deep Avatar Analysis From Testimonials” (contained in the resources section at the bottom) to turn raw reviews into a living, breathing customer avatar you can actually write for.

In Part 1, we looked at testimonials not as “nice-to-have” social proof, but as emotional X‑rays into your customers’ inner world.

Every strong testimonial quietly answers:

  • Who is this person, really?
  • What painful “before state” were they living in?
  • What were they secretly hoping this product would change?
  • What doubts did they have to overcome to buy?
  • How do they feel about themselves after the purchase?

The Master Prompt is designed to pull those answers out in a structured way, so you’re no longer guessing at your avatar—you’re reflecting your customers back to themselves in their own words.

Step 1: Prepare the Raw Material

Before you open an AI tab, you need good input. Garbage in, garbage out.

Collect the right testimonials

Prioritize:

  • Long-form reviews with detail and story (“I was struggling with…”), not just “Love it!”
  • Testimonials from customers you’d happily clone 100 times.
  • A mix across your key products or offers, but still within the same general avatar.

Sources you can pull from:

  • Shopify product reviews and review apps (e.g., Judge.me, Yotpo, Stamped).
  • Post-purchase surveys and feedback forms.
  • Email replies and support tickets where customers rave.
  • DMs and social comments where people describe their experience in their own words.

Aim for at least 10–50 detailed testimonials to start. You can always add more later.

Put them in a clean format

You don’t need anything fancy. Any of these simple formats will work:

  • A numbered list in a Google Doc:
    • “Testimonial 1: …”
    • “Testimonial 2: …”
  • A quick spreadsheet with columns like: “Product / Offer”, “Review Text”, “Rating”, “Date”.
  • A sectioned document where you group testimonials by product or offer.

The key: Remove extra noise (store UI, timestamps, internal notes) and make sure the AI can clearly see the testimonial text itself.

Step 2: Customize the Master Prompt

The Master Prompt you’re using is intentionally detailed. To get the most out of it, you’ll want to fill in the bracketed context pieces before you hit “go.”

Inside the prompt, you’ll see fields like:

  • Niche/category: [e.g., “premium minimalist women’s loungewear”]
  • Primary offers: [your main products or programs]
  • Price positioning: [budget / mid‑range / premium / luxury]
  • Brand promise: [your core outcome or transformation]

Take a few minutes to answer these as specifically as possible. This context tells the AI what “world” it’s analyzing, so its avatar insights will feel grounded and specific instead of generic.

Step 3: Feed Your Testimonials in Smart Batches

AI models have limits on how much text they can handle at once. Use this simple batching strategy:

  1. Decide on a batch size (10–50 detailed testimonials per run).
  2. Paste the Master Prompt into your AI tool.
  3. Under the prompt, paste your first batch in a clearly labeled section (e.g., “=== TESTIMONIALS BATCH 1 ===”).

Run the prompt and repeat for subsequent batches by asking the AI to "Run the same analysis for this new batch only."

Step 4: Read the AI Output Like a Strategist

The Master Prompt will give you several sections. Here’s how to interpret each one:

Core Avatar Snapshot – This reads like a persona. Highlight lines that feel “spine-tinglingly true” and cross out anything that doesn't match your experience.

Deep Motivators (what compels them to buy)– The AI will list emotional drivers like "Relief from decision fatigue." Circle the top three—these become the backbone of your messaging.

Values, Beliefs, and Non-negotiables – This is your avatar’s moral code. Look for values they explicitly praise and beliefs they have about themselves or the problem.

Buying Journey and Objections – Mark recurring patterns. Do they mention one specific risk? Do they rave about an aspect you barely mention in your copy? These are opportunities to lean in harder.

Language: Phrases, Frames, and Hooks – This is your swipe file for headlines, email subject lines, and ad copy. Reach for their words first.

Step 5: Consolidate into a Avatar Sheet

Create a short doc to synthesize the data. Include: Name (nickname), Who they are, What they want, What they’re struggling with, Why they buy, Why they hesitate, and Exact phrases they use.

Step 6: Sharpen the Avatar with Follow-up Prompts

Use smaller, targeted prompts to refine. For example: “Rank the top 5 emotional drivers” or “Rewrite the avatar snapshot in the customer’s voice as a diary entry.”

Step 7: Plug the Avatar Insights Back into Your Shopify Assets

Apply what you've learned to your store:

  • Rewrite messaging: Replace generic benefits with direct motivators.
  • Add a “seen and understood” section: Mirror their inner monologue on your page.
  • Build FAQs from objections: Address fears using testimonial proof.

Make this a Repeatable Ritual

Your avatar isn’t static. Export and organize new testimonials every 3–6 months to keep your research engine running.
